Dr. Maryam Khokhar
Assistant ProfessorBehavioral Science is a branch of science, such as Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology, that deals primarily with human action and often seeks to generalize about human behavior in society. In modern practice of medicine a doctor is expected to have knowledge of Bio-Psycho-Social Model of healthcare. This Model expects a medical practitioner to be an effective communicator and an ethical practitioner and train himself in psycho- social aspects alongside the biological determinants of health and disease. He is expected to extend patient care beyond the patient to include the family, environment and the community and emphasis as much as on treatment of disease.
The study of Behavioral Science integrates the study of biological and medical sciences with the knowledge of psychology, sociology and anthropology thus helping the future doctors in having a holistic and a humanistic approach to their patients. It is valuable for the doctor to improve his interviewing skill and also to establish a relationship in which his patients trusts him.
