PediatritionChildren, including infants, are highly vulnerable to medical ailments, which can have long lasting or life-long implications. Thus importance of Pediatrics cannot be under-estimated. Pediatrics is the branch of medicine dealing with children, their growth, well-being and diseases. The curriculum of pediatrics is based on common health related problems of children particularly of Pakistan. A medical student should have the minimum knowledge and skill to provide comprehensive health care to children, counsel mothers and care givers on immunisation, nutrition and risk factors. A medical student is also taught to be sensitive to the needs of children and their behaviour. The course of studies includes social and preventive pediatrics, growth and development, nutrition, neonanatology, genetics parasitic and infectious diseases and other fields of medicine including pediatrics emergencies. One of the success factor for a pediatrist is knowledge of child psychology and good communication skills.
