ASSISTANT PROFESSORUrology is the branch of medicine that focuses on surgical and medical diseases of male and female urinary tract system and male reproductive organs. Organs under the domain of urology include kidneys, adrenal glands, ureters, urinary bladder, urethra and male reproductive organs. Urology combines the management of medical conditions, such as urinary tract infections and prostrate related complications, management of surgical conditions like bladder or prostate cancer, kidney stones, congenital abnormalities, injuries or urinary incontinence. A urologist is trained in open and minimally invasive surgeries i.e. robotic, laparoscopic, laser assisted or scope guided. Because of inter-related nature of human organs a urologist closely collaborates with nephrologists, oncologists, gynecologist, gastroenterologists and endocrinologists. MBBS students, during their clinical studies would learn about urology both in terms of the anatomical structure of related organs and the diseases anociated with them. They would assist in simple procedures and witness more advanced urological procedures during the last two years of study. Urology is one of the most competitive and sought after specialties for physicians.
